The BIG game! The Bears have been anxiously waiting for their first home game of the season and it was this Friday, September 13th, against Culver City. From face paint to cave shirts, everyone showed up to show their Bear pride as theycheered on the team as they took on Culver City. Even the freshmen were able to show their spirit as Link Crew hosted the annual freshman tailgate. Chick-Fil-A also showed their support for the game by giving free gift cards and inflatable footballs. Unfortunately, the Bears lost 56-28, but the school spirit that was shown last Friday will continue throughout the season as we continue to support our Bears during this amazing season.

Before the home game, Link Crew hosted the annual freshman tailgate which consisted of games, food, and even free entrance to the game. When asked about the tailgate, Yasha Haque, a Link Crew leader, said that it was “very exciting to be able to host the event, play games with the freshman, and show them what this amazing bear family is all about.” Yasha Haque, along with the over 80 other Link Crew leaders, set up the tailgate immediately after school to make sure that the event was as successful as possible for the freshman. At the tailgate, the freshman could get face paint, take pictures at the photo booth, and play games with fellow Link Crew leaders before the big game. At 6 pm, the freshmen were able to enter the game with reserved seats just for them in the cave.

Early in the game the bears were leading 14-7 when just before the end of the second quarter, Kyle Miller, wide receiver, caught the ball from the quarterback and successfully managed to go through the outside linebacker and safety running to make the touchdown. ASB sophomore class president, Crystal Pardo, was cheering on the cave by waving a flag representing Warren and running side to side at the bleachers as the whole crowd stood up showing their team spirit. Later in the game when the Bears were tied with Culver City, Rocco Caballero was able to prevent the receiver from making a touchdown in the end zone which would have led to Culver City gaining the lead.

Even though the Bears gave it their all, Culver City managed to win the game at Warren. This game was still a memorable event in which the Bears kicked off the football season with all the excitement, school spirit, and the overall joy that was present last Friday. The Bears’ school spirit continue to shine for the upcoming games as it leads up to the biggest game of the season: Downey vs. Warren on November 1st.
